About Mandai Nature Academy

Imagine turning today's conservation challenges into opportunities for real change.

The Mandai Nature Academy bridges critical gaps in conservation capacity building, research and tools - key barriers to effective wildlife conservation in Singapore and the region.

Guided by three pillars: Science & Research; Capacity Building; and Advocacy, we can nurture tomorrow's conservation leaders and position Singapore as a regional centre of excellence for conservation.

Science & Research

Driving biodiversity research to deliver actionable knowledge, innovative tools and measurable impact on the ground.

Capacity Building

Empowering and mentoring the next generation of conservation professionals while strengthening conservation expertise across Southeast Asia through structured programmes.

Advocacy

Engaging communities and integrating biodiversity protection into everyone's life and business practices, fostering a biophilic Singapore.

Singapore Conservation Impact Grant

Our flagship local grant programme supports biodiversity projects in Singapore that enhance ecological connectivity and foster a biophilic city. A project can encompass various areas under any of these three key pillars:

  • Biodiverse: Maintaining or enhancing biodiversity, protecting and managing species, ensuring healthy wildlife populations, and the rescue, rehabilitation and release of wildlife.
  • Ecological connectivity: Improving habitat quality, enhancing habitat connectivity, and restoring ecological functions of flora and fauna
  • Biophilic: Increasing appreciation for wildlife, reducing undesirable human-wildlife interaction, and improving competency and capacity for wildlife rehabilitation and conservation

Applicants may apply for funding of:

  • Up to S$25,000 for a project (not more than 1 year) or
  • Up to S$50,000 for a project (more than 1 year but not more than 2 years)

Mandai Wildlife Centre

(opening soon)

The Mandai Wildlife Centre strengthens efforts to provide expert care for rescued native wildlife, giving them a second chance at life. It will advance veterinary care and research for native species across Singapore, supporting evidence-based treatments and a deeper understanding of local biodiversity. The Centre will also integrate wildlife health with ecological management and habitat conservation.

It will also serve as a training hub for Southeast Asia, equipping conservation professionals with the skills and knowledge essential to safeguard wildlife.

Biobanking

The biobanking programme serves as Mandai Nature Academy's scientific engine and a vital "genetic safety net" for global biodiversity. Formally integrated into Mandai Nature in 2024, the lab maintains a repository of nearly 4,000 biological samples from 146 threatened species.

Specialising in assisted reproduction techniques (ART), stem cell technology, and wildlife sustainability, we provide the rigourous scientific foundation required to pull vulnerable species back from the brink of extinction.

Beyond the lab, we aim to be a regional leader in capacity building for biobanking. We have hosted professional workshops as well as local and international collaborations to elevate conservation standards across Southeast Asia.
